August saw Chelsea start their Premier League campaign. A dull 0-0 start was deemed satisfactory by fans against a tough Stoke side, and Chelsea improved in the matches later on in the month, winning 2-1 against West Bromwich Albion, before winning by a bigger margin against newly-promoted Norwich City.

The summer transfer window was still open and Andre Villas-Boas felt it was necessary to add some new players into the side.

Juan Mata was one of many new faces in a transitional season for Andre Villas-Boas. He went on to score on his debut in this month.

Raul Meireles was a £12 million acquisition after the much-publicised attempts for Luka Modric failed, whilst youth was also recruited, with Courtois, Piazon, Davila and Lukaku all drafted in.
