Chelsea’s troubles deepened in the November period. An embarrassing 1-1 draw to Belgian side Racing Genk preceded a loss in the next Champions League group stage match, losing in Germany 2-1 to Bayer Leverkusen.

The Premier League campaign failed to divert the Champions League struggles, with a marginal 1-0 victory over relegation-battling Blackburn Rovers. A 2-1 loss to Liverpool lead to some fans concerned with the current state of the team, but a 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers eased some of the tension.

Chelsea bowed out of the Carling Cup at this stage, losing once again to Liverpool. Twice in nine days the two sides had faced each other, and on both occasions, the Reds prevailed, leading to more questions asked, yet again.
