With the transfer window shut, Chelsea could well and truly focus on the season. The Premier League campaign continued where it left off from August, with a close 2-1 victory. Chelsea lost the next match 3-1 against Manchester United, but went on to thrash Swansea City, to relieve some of the embarrassment felt by Andre Villas-Boas after the Old Trafford defeat.

The Champions League campaign also kicked off. A good 2-0 win against Bayer Leverkusen was followed by a tough draw in Valencia.

The Carling Cup adventure also took off. Chelsea and Fulham played out a dull 0-0 draw, but it was the Blues who prevailed on penalties in this west London clash.
