Could new faces help Chelsea’s laborious season? It was Demba Ba who made the move with Daniel Sturridge opting to leave to Liverpool in seek of regular first-team action. It was Ba’s goals that helped Chelsea progress in the FA Cup Third Round win at Southampton, before drawing against Brentford in the Fourth Round. The replay was to be played in the next month.

The league results were mixed as a 1-0 loss to rivals QPR was turned around with a 4-0 win at Stoke. The euphoria there was then met with a dull 2-2 draw to Southampton, before emotions reversed with a 2-1 win against Arsenal. As unpredictable as Chelsea are, it was back to drawing ways as the month ended on a 2-2 draw to Reading.

The League Cup saw disappointing results. A 2-0 loss at home in the semi-final first-leg could not be overturned in the second’s drab 0-0 draw, with Eden Hazard earning a red card for an apparent kick on a ball-boy the unwelcome highlight.
