November is Chelsea’s bogey month and saw the departure of yet another manager, predominantly for European failures, just months after the highlight of the club’s history. A last-gasp victory against Shakhtar Donetsk gave Chelsea hope but a crushing 3-0 loss to Juventus virtually sealed Chelsea’s fate into the Europa League.

Shaky league results only disadvantaged Di Matteo’s case further, despite Chelsea being only four points off top spot. Opening 1-1 draws with Swansea and Liverpool was succeed by a 2-1 loss to bogey team West Brom. Rafael Benitez, the new man at the helm on an interim basis, could only manage two dull 0-0 draws in the league against Man City and Fulham, despite tremendous vocal discontent at Stamford Bridge.
