October was a big month. Further league success was demonstrated with a 4-1 win against Hull, followed by a 4-2 win at Tottenham’s White Hart Lane. But a controversial 3-2 loss to Manchester United brought unwanted refereeing racism controversy as Chelsea and Clattenburg were caught up in an unwanted storm.
Redemption at best, and consolation at worst, was apparent with the revenge beating of Manchester United on the last day of the month. Hazard’s equalising penalty with a matter of seconds left of normal time ensured 30 more minutes as Chelsea in 5-4 AET.
The Champions League brought mixed emotions. A 4-0 thumping of Nordsjaelland was then met with a 2-1 loss at home to Shakhtar Donetsk three weeks later.
